The Off-Season

This entry means a lot to me because it's my first personal post. We began this blog last year to give our clients sneak peeks of their images but work slows down for us for the winter and blog entries dwindle. I've never liked the idea of posting something just to keep people looking - that just doesn't seem right to me. So, this being the off-season, I finally have time to sift through my personal work, through images I've taken but not printed, through work that needed to sit for awhile. I find my personal photography seems to run in cycles: I spend time shooting, then time just leaving things alone, then time printing and exhibiting. And then nothing again for a while. Sometimes a long while. This is the time when I always worry: Will it start again? What if it doesn't? But it always does, because photography is part of who I am. It's how I see. I think most of us working on creative projects benefit from a period of time when we let our fields lie fallow. I think we need distance every now and then in order to see clearly again, to get a fresh perspective. These photographs remind me of that. I took them at the Biltmore in North Carolina just before winter set in. I love that there are seasons, that even these gardens get a break from the summer crowds just to enjoy their own backyard.       - Claudia
